To-Dos
To-Dos are short-term action items that keep your team accountable between meetings. In EOS, To-Dos have a 7-day deadline by default -- they are meant to be completed before the next L10 Meeting.
Overview
The To-Dos page displays all active To-Dos for the team, organized by status:
- Open -- Not yet completed
- Done -- Completed by the owner
Each To-Do shows the title, owner, due date, and completion status.
Creating a To-Do
To create a new To-Do:
- Navigate to To-Dos in the sidebar.
- Click Add To-Do.
- Fill in the form:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Title | Clear, actionable description |
| Owner | Person responsible for completing it |
| Due Date | Defaults to 7 days from today |
| Description | Optional additional context |
To-Dos can also be created from other parts of the application:
- L10 Meeting IDS segment -- When solving an issue, create a To-Do directly.
- Issues page -- Convert an issue resolution into a To-Do.
- Meetings Conclude segment -- Capture action items during meeting wrap-up.
TIP
Write To-Dos as clear, actionable statements. "Call vendor about pricing" is better than "Vendor follow-up". The owner should know exactly what needs to be done.
Assigning Owners
Every To-Do must have an owner -- the single person responsible for getting it done. In EOS, shared ownership is avoided because it diffuses accountability.
Only team members can be assigned as owners. If you need to assign a To-Do to someone on another team, create it on their team's To-Do list instead.
Due Dates
By default, To-Dos are due in 7 days, aligning with the weekly L10 Meeting cadence. You can adjust the due date when creating or editing a To-Do.
To-Dos that are past due are highlighted with a visual indicator, making them easy to spot during the To-Do Review segment of the meeting.
Completing To-Dos
To mark a To-Do as complete:
- Click the checkbox next to the To-Do.
- The To-Do moves to the "Done" section.
During the To-Do Review segment of the L10 Meeting, each owner reports whether their To-Dos are done or not done.
INFO
The goal is a 90%+ completion rate each week. If your team consistently falls below this, it may indicate that To-Dos are too ambitious or that accountability needs strengthening.
To-Do Review in Meetings
During the L10 Meeting To-Do Review:
- The facilitator reads each To-Do.
- The owner responds with "Done" or "Not Done."
- Done To-Dos are checked off.
- Not Done To-Dos are either carried forward (with a new due date) or dropped to the Issues list if they represent a recurring problem.
This review should take no more than 5 minutes. Keep it fast -- just status, no discussion.
Filtering and Sorting
The To-Dos page supports filtering by:
- Status -- Open or Done
- Owner -- Filter by team member
- Due date -- Overdue, due this week, or all
Sort by due date to see the most urgent items first.
Best Practices
- One owner per To-Do. Never assign a To-Do to "the team." Pick one person.
- 7-day default. Keep the weekly cadence. If something takes longer, break it into smaller To-Dos.
- Actionable titles. Start with a verb: "Call", "Send", "Review", "Complete", "Schedule".
- Review weekly. Do not let undone To-Dos accumulate. Address them in the L10 Meeting.
- Track completion rate. The 90%+ target is a key indicator of team accountability.
